STEADY EDDY

 

Glass Screen, Arrivals Hall, Newcastle International Airport.

4m x 3m dry laminated and toughened glass screen with powder coated steel frame for the Arrivals hall of the airport. The key requirements of brief stipulated that it had to be made of coloured decorative glass. It must be opaque not transparent so that the ‘land side’ of the airport obscured from the ‘air side’ and customs. The work depicts a particular pattern of air currents which occur in upper atmospheric circulation, commonly known as a ‘Steady Eddy’.

Currently this work is in storage due to refurbishments taking place within the airport terminal.
